Environment

Tackling climate change will be one of the most important things this generation does, and everyone needs to get involved. Every day, more and more people are taking actions to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle other environmental problems. The Rigby Group have made steps to reduce our own carbon emissions and tackling environmental issues, this has started at our Southport offices initially, we have now made steps to install our own high performance Proven 6kW Turbine which will be supplied by Proven Energy  The system will be a grid-connected system that feeds power directly into our main distribution board and exports power, if there is too much, back to the grid.

Recycling is our biggest issue that we are tackling head on throughout the whole group of companies.

  • Soil excavation – Our licensed carriers recover all soil and under strict conditions it is tested, cleaned and either re-sold or sent to Hightown Composting for further processing.
  • Hardcore – Our licensed carriers recover all hardcore which is then crushed for use as a primary aggregate (6F2)
  • Green Waste – All shrub and green waste is recovered and sent to Hightown Composting where it is treated and shredded for compost.
  • Trees – Where possible all trees that are required for removal on any site will be re-planted on additional sites or schools that we have good relations with. This is because in
urban environments trees help to clean the air, trap dust, reduce noise and pollution, and help to reduce asthma levels.
  • Timber – All our timber is carefully recovered and where possible re-used for studded walls, concrete shuttering or garden furniture. Pallets are returned to the carrier for use
again, and anything leftover is passed to a local resident for use in a wood burner to heat his home.
  • Cardboard Packaging – All cardboard is passed to our licensed recycling centre, 65% is baled and recycled, 35% is used for horse bedding.
  • Paper – Non confidential office paper, and old tender documents are reprinted for employee time sheets, or job sheets. Once used again they are shredded with
confidential documents and donated for animal bedding.
  • All metals are recovered, stripped and stored for further recycling at a licenced centre.

Where it is not possible to segregate materials mixed skips are used.

  • Any materials that are put into mixed skips are processed by a B.S.A trommel and picking line which enables them to recover 90%+ of any recyclable products.
  • The small amount of material that is unable to be recycled is taken to landfill by our licensed centres.
